First Water supplies water quality testing kits which detect hydrogen sulphide generated by bacteria. This cheap and simple method has been shown to be a reliable indicator of faecal contamination of water. H2S kits are particularly useful where laboratory facilities do not exist and have been recommended as a tool for community monitoring of water supply and for health education purposes.
